Jerome
Zeringue has an extensive background in fisheries, wetlands, and
public policy issues.
He attended
Louisiana State University where he received a Bachelors of Science
Degree in Zoology, and a Masters of Science in Fisheries Biology.
Currently, he is pursuing his Ph.D. in the Water Resources Planning
and Management Program at Tulane University.
After graduate
school, Mr. Zeringue began his professional career working for
Louisiana State University as a Fisheries Biologist. He worked in
an educational advisory capacity with fisheries/wetlands related
businesses and associations; and served as a resource on fisheries
and wetlands issues affecting Terrebonne Parish
At LSU, Mr.
Zeringue also served as an instructor for the Hazard Analysis
Critical Control Point (HACCP) program working with seafood
processors and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to assist
seafood businesses in the area. While working for LSU, Mr. Zeringue
received the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center’s 1997
USDA Honor Award for Public Service.
Following his
service with LSU Mr. Zeringue worked for the Nature Conservancy of
Louisiana as the Coastal Resources Director. His responsibilities
included administering major ecosystem initiatives and directing
efforts concerning long-range wetlands protection plans for the
coast of Louisiana, as well as heading the acquisition efforts for
the Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge in Terrebonne Parish.
Mr. Zeringue
is currently serving as the Executive Director of the Terrebonne
Levee and Conservation District. His primary responsibilities
include advising and assisting the Board of Commissioners in
establishing flood control, drainage and water resource development
works as they relate to hurricane protection, tidewater and riverine
flooding, saltwater intrusion, erosion control, marsh management and
wetlands conservation.
